Snow ... Finally

Well we finally had some snow ... not a lot but some ... I wanted to stay home for the whole day so Skye and I could just play in it all day long but I couldn't do that ... so we decided to be late instead ... which both of us were perfectly happy about ...

We got all bundled up ... for a kid who rarely gets to see snow she sure knew the drill ... she told me which had she needed to wear out ... that she had to have gloves and her boots on ... and warm pants ... we weren't going to be out long enough to warrant the snow pants I got so she settled for fleece ...

She was SO excited the moment we stepped out ... she jumped around ... looked up to the sky to feel the flakes on her face ... just loved it ...

She asked if we could build a snowman ... I explained there wasn't quite enough snow for that and it would be a bit hard for mommy ... we'd wait till the next snow and daddy could do it ... I was so sorry he was out of town and didn't get to participate in what she has been waiting a whole year for ...

She was alright about the snowman and said, "snowballs instead" ... so she made a bunch of snowballs and threw them and thought it was a blast ... did a little running in the yard ... and just had a grand time ... if only we could have gone out later to play more but by the time we got home tonight it had started raining ice ...

But I'm confident we'll get more snow and she'll get to play more ...

29 Weeks

Well I have hit the uncomfortable point ... so it takes 29 weeks for me to be kinda tired of being pregnant ...

I'm walking slower
There is a bit of a waddle going on
Rolling over during the night is now a process
My back hurts
I can't see my feet anymore
I knock into stuff with my belly (including my kid)

And last but not least ... I had to switch to my big maternity underwear cause I was SO tired of the others rolling down my stomach all the time ...

I see my regular doc next week ... and then it is every two weeks after that ... home stretch time ...

I have had a couple of days where my ankles have gotten swollen but still nothing like last time ... my shoes and jewelry still fit ...

Oh and you can physically see my shirt move when he is kicking ... sometimes it looks like he is actually in there jumping up and down ... but soon I know there won't be room left for him to jump around ... the lack of weird pressure will be nice ...

Such A Great Kid

So this weekend was mostly spent moving everything out of our kitchen and setting up a make-shift kitchen in our dining room and living room ... a lot of work ... David and I were wiped out ... and through out the entire process Curly Top either helped us by packing stuff or throwing stuff away for entertaining herself with straws and other such goodies ... she never acted up or demanded attention ... she was perfectly happy all weekend ...

David and I were talking last night that we felt really lucky ... even he and I were frazzled and wanted to do other things ... but she never acted that way ...

So as a reward the little cutie got to have a Popsicle in the bath tub last night and she thought that was fabulous ... she savored every moment of that grape pop and I loved that the clean-up was so easy ...

I just feel so lucky she is who she is ... I adore everything about her and love how she is patient and kind ... that she always says thank you and usually says please ... and that she told me last night her favorite thing to do is snuggle with mommy ... I don't want these days to ever end ...

Sad News

On Wednesday January 14th, musiKidsFounder and President, Lisa Flaxman Martel, passed away after a battle with breast cancer. I had the privilege of knowing and working with Lisa. She always had a cheerful smile, positive words and a giving spirit to all whom she touched. She will be missed. If you'd like to read more about Lisa, click here.

I worked with Lisa while doing Rock-n-Tot ... she was very kind to me and encouraged us greatly in the pursuit of starting our own business and did a lot to help get the Rock-n-Tot name out there ... Skye loved playing at MusiKids and thought it was a great place ... I am sure she will be missed greatly ... oh and please say a prayer for her 3 little kids ... I can't stop crying thinking about them ...

My Brownie Lover

Skye is going to my mom's house tomorrow for a play date and my mom asked if we had any plans to make more brownies (for their anniversary Skye made them some that my mom just loved) so I said, "Sure we could make some brownies tonight so Skye can bring some with her." ...

Once Skye heard that she started changing that she was,  "going to make chocolate brownies sitting on the red stool." ... (before David and I even had kids we found this awesome retro kitchen stool in bright red and we talked about how one day we wanted our kids to love that stool because they got to use it while helping in the kitchen ... and it has happened a lot faster than we thought and it makes us both so happy) ...

So anyway ... Skye gets up on her red stool and I get out the mixing bowl ... and asked her what we needed to make the brownies ... she said, "Chocolate ... water ... 2 eggs ... more chocolate and that (she pointed to the oil)" ... I couldn't believe it ... she, after making them once, has memorized the recipe of brownies ... I think she might have inherited her father's chef abilities ...

She had a blast every moment of making the brownies ... she told me what was next ... poured it all into the bowl ... helped mix it ... licked the bowl and spoon and asked if she could sit on her red stool while they cooked ...

Instead we had dinner and daddy gave her a bath ... and I brought up a tiny brownie for her to have before bed and boy was she excited ... she got in her jammies and took little nibbles and kept saying, "Thank you mommy and daddy thank you." ...

I just don't want these moments to end with her ... moments flash by so fast ... and before I know it she is going to be totally grown up ... I just want to savor every thing and every moment ...

28 Weeks

Wow from this day I have only 10 weeks left if I can hold out till 38 weeks ... I can't believe it is so close ...

Skye is really becoming interested in my belly and has started talking about the baby ... it is good because she seems excited ...

Today I sent her an Amazing Mail postcard with a photo of my last sono on the front and the card written by Lincoln letting her know he was very excited to meet her ...

I asked her if she thought Lincoln would bring her a present and she said, "Yes. A red present on his birth day." there were no more details ... so I don't know what red present he is bringing ...

The Pilgrimage Has Started

Apparently the pilgrimage to DC has started ... tonight we went to dinner a block from the house ... in that drive to and from the restaurant we saw 12 tour buses and 7 hotel shuttles ... and throughout dinner the hotel shuttles were just one after the other in front of the restaurant ...

I'm very curious what tomorrow going to and from work will be like ... and am so thankful that I have Tuesday off ...

I know we are only a little more than 4 miles outside of the city ... but I didn't know how we would feel it here ... the next couple of days should be very curious ...

I Made Chocolate

Today Skye and I made brownies and boy did she ever have fun ... I promisedher this weekend that we would make some and she didn't let me forget it ...

We got out the big red kitchen chair and she climbed on up ... she poured the brownie mix in the bowl and the chocolate syrup ... she held the measuring cup and put in the water and oil and eggs and thought it was all amazing ...

Since we needed to use the mixer to mix it all together I let her turn it on ... then after it was finished gave her a big spoon so she could do some mixing herself ...

She squealed with delight when it was time to put it in the oven and then for 35 minutes kept proclaiming that "I made chocolate ... I made chocolate" ...

Once they were out of the oven we went upstairs to watch The Aristocats while they cooled off ... and they were the perfect treat after the movie ... she was so very proud of her creation and was so happy that we all loved them ...

She keeps running into the kitchen to check on them and we are taking 2 to grandmommy and granddaddy tonight who are celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary tomorrow ...

I'm so proud of my big girl ...

My lovely husband burped ... and I responded as usual, "You're hot!!" ...

Skye smiled and I said, "Tell Daddy he is hot." ...

She got up and started lifting up his shirt ... he asked what she was doing and she said ...

"Checking t osee if you are hot!" ...

Glucose Test

Well I am sitting here waiting to drink my sugary flat orange drink for my glucose test ... and I have to say this is just so hard for me ... I wake up every morning starving ... I need to eat something as soon as I get up and then I have oatmeal once I get to work ... my stomach is growling and I am light headed and nauseous ... and it is still going to be like 2 hours before I get to eat ...

And gulping down that concoction when I am so hungry is soooooooo hard ... ick ... I have about 5 minutes before I gotta go drink it ... yuck ...

But my fingers are crossed that I pass no problem ...

27 Weeks

Today I had a sonogram and got a couple of photos ... they are supposed to be the face but I am not sure if I am looking at the correctly ...

When at the sono I got a brand new technician ... I was kinda bummed because I really like the other two women there and look forward to seeing them but the new lady needs some practice and since I go all the time who better right ...

Well tonight I am wishing I hadn't been the new customer ...

You know when you are like 8 weeks pregnant and they push a bit hard to see everything ... well she was pushing 5 times harder and I am 27 weeks ... my belly shoots to the sky when I lay down ... there isn't a single reason to push hard ... and tonight I can hardly move I am soooooooooooo sore ... it feels like I was in a kick boxing match ... it is just crazy ...

And I know it isn't necessary because one of the techs I like came in to help and make sure she took all the measurements and the ones the new tech missed this one took and guess what ... no pushing down hard ... during the exam I told her it was the first hour I hadn't felt the baby move ... I am sure it is cause she was kicking his ass too and he was trying to stay still to avoid the huge probe crushing in on him ...

They said everything looked fine ... he was really big ... asked if I had had my glucose test yet and I told them I was having it on Thursday but that my daughter was big too ... both sides of my family just makes big babies ... ya know people kept insisting I had gestational diabetes with Skye cause she was so big ... but the people I know who had GD gave birth to small babies ... so why does everyone assume it with my big ass babies??

Dreams Come True

I have to start out saying this past weekend I had a dream I had a flat tire and my dad told me it was all fixed up and I went out to the car and it wasn't ... that in fact two tires were flat ...

so anyway ...

Today turned out to be crappy ... I got home in record time so I stopped at Target ... I knew they were taking their winter stuff out soon and I wanted a vest for me and some snow pants for skye ... I got them all soooooo cheap I was so excited ... less than 20 bucks ... you can't beat that ...

I went out to the car and it seemed very slanted ... I tried to pull out and that wasn't happening ... I got out of the car ... walked around the car ... and it was the flattest tire I have ever seen ... just destroyed ... I called AAA and waited an hour for them to get there ... in a car that has no working heat ... the AAA guy got there and couldn't get my spare tire off ...

So I had to call David ... who had to get Skye all bundled up and head over there ... and then try forever to get the spare tire off and he couldn't either ... it is jammed in there and the clip broke or something ... gotta get someone to check it out ...

So I got the spare off David's car while he jacked the car up ... got the donut put on and called Sears ... 30 minutes till close and if I could get there in 10 minutes they would help me out ...

Wouldn't you know the car was riding weird on the way over there ... and the back tire was 1/2 flat by the time I got there ... the other two tires looked horrible ... so instead of the 2 tires I was planning on getting (since you always buy in groups of 2) I wound up getting 4 new tires ... SO not the expense we needed right now ... I am just sick about it ...

The only saving grace was stopping at Target tonight ... otherwise this would have happened tonight and when I went out for my doctors appointment in the morning I would have had to deal with all of it then ... still it was way too much money ... damn it ...

Random Remembers

I feel like so much happened over the weekend and I randomly keep remembering stuff ...

First of all it was amazing to get to hang out with Heather ... I love her so much and any time I get to spend with her is totally precious ... Schuyler fell in love too ... she wanted to be around Heather any time she could ... playing with her dollhouse ... singing songs ... dancing for her ... going down to wake her up each morning ... and this afternoon helping her roll up her clothes up to pack them in her suitcase ... at the airport when we said good-bye she cried so so so hard and was so upset Aunt Heather was leaving ... it broke my heart ...

Heather brought Skye her first Jack-n-the-box and it is awesome ... it is a sock monkey ... Heather is now Skye's sock monkey aunt and Skye just loves it ... she loves to be surprised and she cracks up every single time ... she thinks it is awesome ...

Last night David made pot roast for us and it was beyond delicious ... I just love that David is so here for me and our company ... we had two home cooked meals that were fantastic and it was great for all of us to sit around the table and enjoy dinner together ... and as usual Skye was a little show off and performing for us all ...

Oh David and my dad found something for our kitchen that I am so excited about ... a button that installs at the sink to run the garbage disposal ... it is awesome ...

I'm so happy Heather got to spend 4 days with us ... I only wish it could have been more ... and I really wish we could make the trip out to Lawrence to see her ... I would love to show David where I went to college ... where I "grew up" ... all my favorite spots ... and just hang out in a place I love with the people I love ... that would be fantastic ...

Busy Weekend

Well Heather got here from Kansas on Thursday late afternoon and Schuyler and I went to the airport to pick her up ... it was probably my best airport pick-up ever ... we parked in the garage right by Southwest ... we came off the elevator and the monitor said her luggage would be on turnstyle 2 and that is right where we were ... we went and sat down and before my tush was on the seat we saw her walking out ... and then it was right back to the car ...

We hung out at home Thursday night ... David fixed chicken and potatos and veggies that were delicious ... and Skye was just so happy to see her ...

Friday started out a quiet morning ... I made my own cinnamon rolls from scratch without a recipe that turned out sooooooo good ... I was so happy about it ...

My dad called and wanted to go look at some stuff for the remodel ... so we packed up some snacks (not enough) and headed out ... we spent hours at home depot ... thank goodness Schuyler had Heather with her ... they looked at all sorts of stuff in the store ... got a stack of Minnie Mouse paint swatches ... had hot pretzels and ran around the store ...

While we picked out this amazing black kitchen sink ... bought a new sliding glass door, small window for the kitchen above the sink and a huge bay window for the window wall (that is going to become half the height so we can have cabinets and counters underneath it ... we also got a kitchen faucet ... and looked at tons of other stuff like toilets and tubs and all that jazz ...

Then we headed to a granite place ... it was in a warehouse and awesome ... they had tons to choose from and after much consideration we found one that we both loved ... and the guys prices were amazing ... he gave us a sample to bring home and think about and we told him we would be back Satruday ...

So this afternoon we all headed out again ... we had searched around and we weren't going to find a better price for granite countertops and all of us really liked the guy ... so we paid our deposit ... and set up the tenative schedule ...

Then we headed to a WAY high end bath, kitchen and lighting place to look around ... get some ideas for stuff we want that we can then look for online at a reasonable price ...

It kind of sucks that this is the weekend we needed to start getting stuff done since Heather is visiting ... but at the same time she made it all that much easier to get stuff done ... and Schuyler is just in love with her ... and has had so much fun hanging out with her ... and we did get so much done ... although we have these long lists of stuff we still need to do ... I just don't know that David and I were prepared with all that needed to be done ...

At least while Heather has been here we have been able to stay up late talking and hanging out ... I just love when she is here ...

Our soon to be new black sink

Heather testing out the tubs

Boo Bites

Last night Skye said she needed band-aids for her boo bites ... it is the first time she has asked for band-aids ... she has a boo bite on each cheek ... so I told her after her bath we could put them on ... well she actually wanted out of the tub sooner to put on her kitty kitty band-aids ... (and this huge pregnant woman wasn't going to argue with her ... bath time is hard enough for me now and she insists that it is me that does it ... she says "time together mommy" ... no matter how hard I struggle how could I resist that)

So out of the tub and wiggling with excitement we get out 2 small kitty kitty band-aids ... and place them over the boo bites on each cheek ... she was up on the stool so she could see them in the mirror ... and just loved them ... big smiles all around ...

For about 4.5 seconds ...

By the time we got into her room she wanted them off ... and off now ... I had to distract her while daddy brought the camera up so I started sniffing her ... telling her how wonderful she smelled after her bath ... she thought it was hysterical ... and first thing this morning was ready for me to sniff her ... but at least it distracted her long enough to take these photos ...

How Brothers are Made

Tonight during bath time Schuyler and I had the most adorable conversation ...

She likes for me to write her name and mommy and daddy on the side of the tub ... tonight she asked me to write out Lincoln too ...

I then asked her if she knew where her brother was right now ... she put her finger to her mouth and said, "hummmmm" ... so I told her he was in my tummy but would be here soon ...

She said, "It's lots of jelly!!" ... I asked her if it was jelly that made her brother ... she said, "Oh yes ... jelly and bread."

Mommy: "So your brother is made of lots of jelly and bread? What else?"
Skye: "Jelly and bread and a pickle"
Mommy: "Jelly and bread and a pickle - wow ... anything else?"
Skye: "Oh yes and juice"
Mommy: "So to make your brother I took lots of jelly and bread, a pickle and juice - anything else?"
Skye: "And a smoothie ... mommy's smoothie not Schuylers."
Mommy: "So your little brother is made out of jelly and bread and a pickle and juice and a smoothie. And it is all mixing up in my tummy and will be your little brother?"
Skye: "Taaadaaaaaaaaa"

Sudoku Nerd

OK so I will admit ages ago I tried to do a Sudoku puzzle and really I could have peed standing up easier than completing one of those ... and never gave it a second thought ...

Then the other day I finished the crossword puzzle in a magazine and there was a Sudoku puzzle and I thought I would give it a try ... and this time it just clicked ... the numbers all fell into place much easier and I finally "got it" ...

Well now I am hooked ... I added a Sudoku application to my google home page ... and a program to my phone so I can play anywhere ...

I have totally become a Sudoku nerd ... way behind the craze but a nerd none the less ...

Do What You Say

Last night my little Curly Top couldn't sleep ... she was content to stay in her room and read ... she sang a couple of new songs she made up (her new hobby - and some of them are so funny) ... she was being good in her tent but sleep just wasn't coming ...

I asked David if he would put a new pull-up on her since she had had 2 cups of juice and was still up ... to avoid pee on all her clean sheets ...

When he went in she asked if she could go use the potty ... well it doesn't matter what time of day it is we never say no ... afterwards I see her at the top of the stairs ... David said she wanted to come and give me a kiss ... another thing I will never say no to ...

She came down all happy ... I told her what a great job she did using the potty and we hugged and kissed ... then real quietly she kept saying "Iage ... Iage please mommy" ... took me a second and I said, "Oh are you asking if we can watch Ice Age?" ... "Yes mommy please." ...

I told her it was way too late to watch it now ... but that if she went up to bed right now and tried to go to sleep I would wake her up in the morning before I went to work and she could come get in mommy's bed with juice and apple cake (granola bar) and watch Ice Age ...

A big smile exploded across her face and she went upstairs right away ... got right into bed ... and laid down ... and I didn't hear anything coming from her room after that ...

So like I promised this morning I got juice and apple cake and put it in my room ... then went to get her ... before she even opened her eyes she said "Iage Iage mommy" ... once she got out of her tent she said, "Mommy time for Iage in mommy's bed" and I told her ... it is all set up and ready to go with juice and apple cake awaiting ...

She was just so happy crawling into my bed ... she kept saying "Thank you mommy thank you mommy" ...

Now normally when she gets into our bed in the morning David can sleep a little longer ... not the case when Ice Age 2 is on ... she cracks up ... and thinks all the animals are sooooo great and points them all out ... and thinks they are the funniest things ever ...

I got a big hug and kiss before I left for work this morning ... and left her with a huge smile on her face ... so happy I followed through on that promise even though she was still sound asleep when I was ready to leave today ...

26 Weeks

So I am feeling heavy ... not fat ... heavy ... and I think one can only understand that if they have been pregnant ... like there is pressure on my pelvis ... and I am walking slower ... and bending down to pick something up just pisses me off ... thank goodness at home Skye is there to help me ... and that she loves being a helper :)

I got a couple of comments today that it looks like I have popped again ... I do feel bigger ... I haven't been taking any photos ... I should be doing that ... and unlike with Skye it is just my stomach that is huge ... it is weird to catch my reflection sometimes ...

And this kid is still kickin and kickin hard ... at some moments it distracts me from what I am doing ... waiting for it to subside ...

Next week I have another sono and my glucose test ... fun stuff I tell ya ...

I do still struggle every day with the idea of doing this one more time ... and every day I have a different answer ... some days it is "yes we have to have another one" ... other days it is "can we really afford another one" but on the negative side it is never that we don't want one ... it is can we afford to do it ... I guess we just gotta wait for this little guy and then we will know ... but I will say the conversations in my head about it all are a bit reminiscent of this annoying woman that was on my old message board ... she had this debate for ever and talked about it with everyone so I don't talk about it with anyone but David ... anyone who knows the woman I am speaking of has just giggled a little reading this ...

Wash and Dry

On the last day of 2008 we got a new washer and dryer ... I was waiting until I used them to write about them ... my oh my are they a HUGE difference from what we had ...

They are front loading machines and amazing ...

See our previous washer was just a couple of years old ... we had to buy one soon after moving in because ours broke ... we didn't have much to spend and couldn't get the biggest top loader available ... big mistake because I would over-stuff it ... but it cleaned the clothes anyway and I didn't really have a problem with that ...

Our dryer on the other hand was manufactured the year I graduated high school ... and we just had our 20 year reunion ... the only setting on the machine was a timer ... no heat settings no nothing ... when we first started using it we had to set the timer for 80 minutes ... that is a long time to dry clothes ... and a long time to use electricity ... especially with how many loads I need to do to get all of our clothes clean ...

In the recent past ... maybe the last month we had to do two 80 minute cycles for each load ... multiply that by 5 or 6 loads and that is an awful lot of electricity and time to get our clothes clean ...

I did laundry this weekend ... 45 minutes and everything was bone dry ... also the size of the new machines I got everything finished in 3 loads ... it was AMAZING ... I can't even believe it ... what an energy and time saver ... it made me a bit more excited about doing laundry and it sure does give me more time to hang out with my family without thinking about when to go down for the next cycle ...

Once it gets moved upstairs when the bathroom is turned into the laundry room I may actually grow to not hate the task anymore ... I can do loads every couple of days rather than all on the weekend and no more hauling clothes down 3 flights of stairs ... shoot I'm even going to keep hangers in the laundry room and just put clothes right on the hanger out of the dryer ...

But for right now I am VERY VERY VERY happy with our new Sears purchase ... made today a lot easier ...

Now if only there was a machine that put everything away ... then I would be in heaven ...

Writing Letters

This morning my little Curly Top really REALLY impressed me ...

My mom gave her a dry erase book the other day to practice writing letters ... I thought it was a bit early for it but Skye proved me totally wrong ...

I gave it to her last night while the contractor was here ... I thought she would just enjoy using the pen ... I did explain that the dotted lines were to help her practice writing letters ...

So she took it to her little table and wrote wrote wrote in it ... kept her busy for quite sometime ...

It wasn't until this morning that I was impressed ... first thing she wanted to do was "pakace letters" ... I took the book to go wipe it clean and there it was ... page after page of letters she had done ... I couldn't believe it ... not every single one mind you ... you could tell where she tried and scribbled it out but there were about 10 letters she did so well ... I kept asking her if she did this and she proudly said yes ... I told her I was very proud of her and that she had done a great great job ...

And again she has been playing with it this morning ...

I think my favorite part though was the last page is a practice page ... and on it was a huge happy face ... her new favorite thing to draw ...

I'm just so very proud of my little girl ... she continues to amaze me every day!!!

I Was Wrong

Oh boy was I wrong ... so very wrong ... our new family tradition is going to be staying home on New Years Day ...

I really was so so so excited about going to the American History Museum today ... I checked out the website to find out what all was going to be on display at the museum ... it was closed for a while for renovations so I was also anxious to see it ...

Skye was really excited to see Kermit ... she talked about him non stop ...

So my first mistake ... I wrote down 4th and Constitution ... when it is at 14th and Constitution ... we found a place pretty quick at 4th and Constitution and got all our stuff together and started walking ... it was freezing and windy out but I was impressed with how close we were ...

Till I realized we weren't close at all ... once we got down to Constitution I noticed none of the informational signs said anything about The American History Museum ... so we asked a cab driver ... turns out AHM is at 14th and Constitution ... I couldn't believe I was such a ding dong ... so we started walking ... I wasn't sure I could make it another 10 blocks plus walk around the museum and then walk back 10 blocks but I was willing to give it a go ...

Let me just mention that I was also an idiot ... I just wore a cardigan and scarf cause I am always so hot and figured we would park near the museum ... and Skye wasn't even in her heavy coat and jacket ... and I was freezing ... parts of me started to go numb ... that is when David said he was going to get the car and would pick us up ... I was so thankful ...

Once we drove to 14th I was sure David made the right choice ... it would have been a killer walk what with being pregnant and how crazy cold out it was ...

Well apparently I am not the only one that is aware of the fact that metered parking is free on holidays in DC ... because there were a gazillion people parked and we drove around and around till David just couldn't do it anymore ... not a space to be found ... but the garage at the Ronald Reagan building was open so we decided to pull in there ... our free parking went to 10 bucks ... but at that point it had taken us so long to do everything I was worried we wouldn't have enough time to see anything ... if only I had known how silly that statement would turn out to be ...

We parked ... got our stuff together ... and headed to the museum ... I was still beyond excited about going ... there was so much we were all going to enjoy seeing ...

OH MY G O O D N E S S ... there were more people there than I could have ever imagined ... I am pretty sure there were more people then that random trip we made years ago before we had Skye ...

I know where everything we wanted to see was located so we headed right up to the 3rd floor and the Thanks For The Memories exhibit ... and Skye was beyond excited that she was going to see Kermit ...

The line to get into the exhibit was HUGE ... but we took our place and shuffled along ... we did get to see a Dumbo car from a ride at Disneyland while waiting ... Skye wasn't aware of who Dumbo was but she loved that there was an elephant there for her to look at ...

Once we got into the exhibit area I was sooooooooo disappointed ... they list all sorts of stuff on their site that you will see ... I mean I remember it being a large area as a kid and seeing Archie Bunker's chair ... The Fonz's jacket and what not ... well the area was like the size of our family room and dining room and there were 10 display cases ... that was it ... a baseball uniform ... women's basketball uniforms ... Grand Master Flash's turntable ... something else I can't remember and then the coveted Kermit the Frog ... I will say she was beyond excited to see him ... even if she had trouble looking at me while taking a photo ...

We also saw Oscar the Grouch and the puffy shirt from Seinfeld ... and the shoes from The Wizard of Oz ...

Then we headed to the instrument room ... even more disappointing ... like 8 cases that had violins and Cello's and that is it ... not what we were expecting from seeing the website first ... but outside the exhibit area they did have an amazing doll house that Skye loved ... she looked at every room and pointed stuff out ... it was precious and so great to see her interested in all the little things inside ...

We checked out the area about the Presidents which was really cool and we could have spent more time there but as I said before it was packed and at this point we were all starving ...

From the third floor mezzanine area we could see a presentation on how they put together the first flag ... Skye thought the stars they were laying out on this huge flag to represent the first 13 colonies were great and the big Christmas tree they had set up on the second floor she thought was beautiful so we hung out up above and watched it for a while ... then went looking for the restaurant ...

Now the last time we were there they had a Subway sandwich shop in a cool restaurant set up like an old automat ... they even had one whole wall with an original Automat ... and I wanted to take some photos of it today and let Skye check it out ... the renovations apparently wiped the place out ... I was so disappointed ... but there were signs for a Stars and Stripes cafe on the ground floor ...

We got down there and I saw $9 for a sandwich ... are you kidding me ... that is just crazy ... for some premade wrapped up sandwich ... I just couldn't do it ... it didn't matter how starving we were ... even pregnant and not having lunch I couldn't pay $9 for a sandwich ...

That was our cue to head back to the car ... Skye told people in the elevator she saw Kermit today ... so that alone made the whole trip worthwhile ... but David and I kept laughing at how wrong I truly was ... and he was happy to hear that our new New Year's Day tradition would be hanging out at home ...

On the plus side all the walking in the cold tuckered everyone out ... it is currently 8 PM everyone in my house is asleep and I myself am heading that way as soon as I hit publish on this post ... I think a bit of extra sleep will do us all a world of good ...

And really is any afternoon a bust that you get to spend with your family?? ... I think not ... and our day was still cheap ... $10 bucks for parking was all it cost us ... but the experience will stay with us forever ... and I am sure the inside jokes will keep David and I laughing for years to come ... besides Skye met her hero today ... she was so touched by seeing Kermit that she wanted to sleep in her Kermit the Frog t-shirt tonight and who could deny that wish? ... Not I ...

A New Family Tradition

I am so so so excited ... we are a few minutes away from heading out to the American History Museum ... Skye is going to get to see Kermit the Frog ... I'm going to get to see fun Americana from TV and movies and David is going to get to see instruments throughout American history ...

We are also going to check out the Gettysburg Address which is just there for a few more days ...

The museum is open every day but Christmas and I'm hoping that I am right in thinking that it will be a perfect day for locals to go ... no school trips ... not a lot of tourists ... and metered parking is free in DC on holidays ...

So off we go ... I'm sure we will have some great photos to share later ...
