Our First Christmas in the House

Christmas in the new house was lovely ... our fake tree is absolutely beautiful although now that it is in such a big space it seems much smaller ... so I think next year we might get a bigger tree for the fireplace room ... maybe this one will go in the family room ... wow two trees - that would awesome ...

David hung wreaths on all the front windows as well (one is visible in the picture of the tree) but I didn't seem to take a picture of that ... next year will be better, we will be a bit more settled and will be able to put lights on the front of the house ... that I will have pictures of for sure :)

Cheap Ninja movie or paint sprayer run-in?

Painting the ceiling of the basement black with the paint sprayer can be messy, messy, messy work ... but delivers excellent results.

The flash from the camera makes it appear as if parts didn't get painted but being down there it looks spectacular ... now with new white paint on the walls it will be a whole new basement ...

Cheap Ninja movie or paint sprayer run-in?

Mark came up with a fabulous idea for our basement ... paint the ceiling black ... since there is duct work and all sorts of stuff on the ceiling down there and when we moved in it was covered with cardboard and peg board we figured that putting in a new ceiling would either have lots of angles (making it more work) or put in at the lowest level (making it feel cramped down there) ...

So David pulled everything tight up against the ceiling ... pipes and wires were all secured ... and everything that didn't need paint on it was covered (including David) ...

David made a first attempt with a borrowed paint sprayer that didn't work ... and with all the plastic and tape down there he was chomping at the bit to get it done ... so on Friday night we headed over to Home Depot to rent a sprayer ... it was the perfect day to do it because if it took us longer than we thought we were going to get to keep it until Monday since the store is closed on Christmas

Well the second we got home David was ready to go to work ... he got in his AWESOME suit (kinda reminded me of the oompha-loomphas in the original movie when Mike TV zapped himself into a million pieces so he could go across the airwaves) ... anyway ... David got all suited up and I was of course ready with my camera ... he let me stay in the basement until he started spraying ...

The first time he came upstairs and was covered in black and I could not stop laughing ... I followed him around with the camera ... but when I took a peek downstairs I knew why he was so anxious to get it done ... it was looking awesome ...

by the time he finished and took off his outfit I couldn't believe how much paint was around his eyes ... and in his nose (even with a mask on) ... but he was correct in saying he looked like he was in a cheap Ninja movie ...

But I must say the photos don't give the final results justice ... the camera makes it look like there are all these spaces that didn't get paint ... when in fact there are only a couple of places that need to be touched up but mostly because they were in areas where he couldn't go with the sprayer too easy ... it just came out looking so awesome ...

now it is time to paint the walls white and put in some lighting ... because the 3 little lights down there now don't give off much light with a black ceiling ... I am quite excited to see the finished project ...

Painting the ceiling of the basement black with the paint sprayer can be messy, messy, messy work ... but delivers excellent results.

Clearing the ice

Now that we have the house ... getting rid of the ice is important ... but is it supposed to be this much fun?

Clearing the ice

As you can see in the pictures (link at the bottom) where ever the sun doesn't hit our yard the snow turns to ice ... and David was ready early this year ... with shovel, salt, scraper for our cars ... and this handy fertilizer distributor that he loaded with salt to spread over the back yard ... but is working on cleaning snow and ice supposed to be this much fun?
