For right now these photos capture the love they have for each other ... Lincoln is instantly calm when Skye is near ... and especially when she is holding him ... and Skye is so proud when she gets to help and hold Linc ... I know one day they will fight like cats and dogs ... just like my brother and I did ... but for right now they truly love each other ...
And every time Linc is put into Skye's arms she is just a doll saying, "Oh he is so tiny and cute." ... She has no idea how cute they both are ...

Pride
Every night Skye asks if she can "hold him" ... and every time she says, "Oh he is so cute and tiny. I just love him" ... she is so proud to be a big sister ... and is just so in love with him ... they are lucky to have each other ...

Valentine's Day With Kids
This Valentine's day was fabulous ... it becomes something totally different when you have a child old enough to feel the day is special ... Schuyler said "Happy Valentine's Day" all day today ... it was fantastic ...
We all had a bunch of cards to open this morning ... it was so nice ... and Skye went crazy for it ... she loves all the Valentine's cards ... she also got a little stuffed dog that you can record a message on and she kept talking about how cute he was ... what was cute was her ...
Her favorite part of the day were the red, white and pink M&Ms we had ... she is the biggest chocolate lover I know ... and it is hard to resist her with her hands open together saying, "More chocolate please" ...
Tonight we all watched Wall-E and Skye loved it ... as soon as it was over she asked if we could watch it again ... I had to promise her we could watch it during breakfast tomorrow ...
It has been such a great family day ... there was nothing overly special we did today but the fact that we were all together made me so happy ... and the over abundance of hugs and kisses was pretty great too ...
I even got a new camera case and a gift certificate for a very much needed pedicure ... so excited about that ...

Sad News
On Wednesday January 14th, musiKidsFounder and President, Lisa Flaxman Martel, passed away after a battle with breast cancer. I had the privilege of knowing and working with Lisa. She always had a cheerful smile, positive words and a giving spirit to all whom she touched. She will be missed. If you'd like to read more about Lisa, click here.
The family has established the Lisa J. Flaxman MusiKares Fund for the Celebration of the Performing Arts through the Montgomery County Community Fund. This fund will honor Lisa's legacy of support for the performing arts in the local community. Funding may be used to support performing arts celebrations, elementary school artist-in-residence programs, public school community performances, and scholarships for local students to attend performing arts institutions and/or to gain access to private arts instruction. I worked with Lisa while doing Rock-n-Tot ... she was very kind to me and encouraged us greatly in the pursuit of starting our own business and did a lot to help get the Rock-n-Tot name out there ... Skye loved playing at MusiKids and thought it was a great place ... I am sure she will be missed greatly ... oh and please say a prayer for her 3 little kids ... I can't stop crying thinking about them ...

Kinda Blew the Anniversary
So yesterday, July 4th, was our 4 year anniversary ... I woke up with the pain in my rib cage and back just as bad as it was last month ... but I was ignoring the pain ... I mean it is the 4th of July ... my favorite holiday ...
We were going to my parents house to cookout and watch the fireworks ... my dad got steaks ... and I was so excited ... I even made Elmo cupcakes (I'll insert the photo later) which Curly Top LOVED ..
While we were there I spent most of the evening writhing in pain ... had maybe 2 bites of baked potato and maybe a bite or two of steak ... and of course a cupcake ...
My mom off-handedly said, "Maybe it is your gallbladder." ... I went and looked it up online and all of a sudden it was clicking ... everything it described is what I was feeling ...
We had PJs with us for Curly Top since we would be coming home late so we just let her stay there ... and D brought me to the hospital ...
Well ... turns out ... my mom was right ... and in a big way ... the doctor said he couldn't believe I waited so long ... so not only are there gallstones ... there is an infection ... it is swollen and surrounded by fluid ... and it has got to come out ...
I was admitted to the hospital from the ER ... and have been on IV Antibiotics all day ... and I am starving ... so so starving ... the last big thing I had to eat was 1/2 a bowl of cheerios on Friday at 7 AM ... the commercials are killing me ... everything looks so tasty ...
So I started out in a horrible room ... an older woman with phenomenawho had visitors all day ... coughed all the time ... fought with her husband ... kept the lights on ... it just sucked ... so I sucked it up and asked if I could move to another room ... and woohoooo they moved me and it is so much better ... right now I am the only one in here and it is fantastic ...
Now if I could just have something to eat I would be pretty happy ...

Can we agree ...
There was a subjest posted on my DC Urban Mom's board today ... mostly asking to agree that both parents no matter what they do should be 50/50 in everything ... housework, child rearing, ... basically everything ... which sparked much debate ... most saying that it isn't 50/50 ... that too much is expected of those at home ... yadda yadda yadda ... I was getting a bit tired of reading about it because I felt like my situation wasn't portrayed at all ... but I still read on to see the opinions and ideas out there ... then I came across this response and it left me a sobbing heap at my desk ... I think it is just beautiful ... and conveys all the things I think but don't express ... I want to save it forever ...
Subject: Re: [DCUM-List] Can we agree?
Can we agree that we married our spouse because of our deep and abiding love
for them, and that for most of us, the thought of losing is almost
unthinkable?
Can we agree that many, if not most of us entered into marriage and into parenting with unrealistic and unachievable ideals for what each would be, and that part of growing into marriage and parenthood is confronting the fantasy and joyfully embracing the reality? Not resignation - but a warm embrace that life, albeit different from what we expected, is outstanding, in that we are sheltered, clothed and fed each day, with the bonus, for most of us, that we are healthy, as our children are. And that those who are not so fortunate to have healthy loved ones, but instead endure or suffer with chronic disease or disability, recognize sooner than most of us that the most important quality one can bring to the table each day is perspective.
Can we agree that life is so very short - and that we - ourselves, our spouses and our children, are all one car accident, one fallen tree, one terminal diagnosis, or one heart attack away from being the subject of a well-attended funeral punctuated by tears and eulogies?
Can we agree that marriage is not a 50/50 deal - that there will be stretches in our lives where it will seem 75/25 or 35/65 or 0-100, but in fact, it is our obligation to choose to do what we can to always give 100%, no matter what our spouses shortcomings might be?
Can we agree that the cleanliness of a house is not what makes it a home, and that frozen dinners or hotdogs and beans, eaten by a family together while sharing the adventures of the day, is preferable to fine cuisine served with a side of bitterness?
Can we agree that we are all, to some extent, living out the dramas of our childhoods and/or replaying our own parents' roles in one fashion or another, and that we are holding ourselves, our partners and our children to a standard which none of us will ever meet - unless it changes.
My father, who was a wise and funny man, was in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit many years ago. He was a regular there, as he was at many hospitals in the area (as a wildly non-compliant diabetic). He was on death watch he was told, with little chance of recovery. But he was lucid and talking. I was so very sad and sat on the edge of his bed, weeping and wondering how my
life would be without him. My then-husband and I had an upcoming trip to the Canadian Rockies which was long planned and very non-refundable). I asked my father whether I should go, or whether I should stay with him, lest he pass away.
Without a moment's hesitation, he said to go - that he might be there when I got back and he might not be - and either way would be okay since we had had
such a great life as father and daughter (which was funny in itself for those who have read some of my previous posts). He told me that now that looked at life from the vantage point of a dying man that he realized - that he'd never seen the Canadian Rockies, or the Gulf of Mexico, or the Grand Canyon and he wished he had. He also said, when you lie here dying, you will never think to yourself, gee, I wish I worked later or on the weekend more of the time, or made more money, or bought more things. He said all you wish for is another day with your spouse, another chance to say I love you, and I'm sorry and another visit to zoo with your children and to feel them, dead weight, asleep in your arms.
I would dare say that if one were to add to this list, I would guess, on our deathbeds, we would never wish to have had cleaned and vacuumed one more time, or to hold a resentment for one more minute than we did.
Life is so very short; no one is guaranteed another moment on this planet. Read the metro section of the post this week and see who drowned, whose child was decapitated, whose husband was crushed by a piece of malfunctioning equipment, whose daughter was raped. It could be you and yours tomorrow, so why waste today on life's most petty problems. Browse the obituaries and try for a moment to think of what yours might say - of your legacy.
One of my favorite tunes which keeps me focused is Bruce Springsteen's "Wreck on the Highway." Give it a listen some time.
And finally, can we all agree that the anonymity of the list serve "empowers" us to communicate in a way which would never do with our grandmothers or our neighbors, while sitting in our front porches sipping lemonade on a steaming hot July afternoon is the same anonymity that leads to road rage and other such sordid human behaviors?

SAHM Day
Today I got to spend the day with Curly Top ... the whole day (minus the horrible dental appointment) ... and we had a blast ... we read a ton of books ... played in the bounce house ... ate breakfast, lunch and dinner together ... and after quiet time in her room we headed out to run errands ... which was soooooo much fun ...
We had to get more diaper pail liners so we made it an afternoon ... walked all over Buy Buy Baby ... got a new Sesame Street lunch pail ... she just absolutely loves window shopping so we had to stop at every store and check out their window display ...
We went to the toy store where Curly Top tried out a sit and spin which she was only fond of for a moment ... she really liked the train table and the Calico Critters (I think that is what the doll house was called) ... we went into the bike store cause she kept talking about daddy's "mo bike" (scooter) and wanted to try out a bike ... she didn't quite get the peddles yet but boy she loved being on the bike ...
I so so so wish I got to spend every day with her ... it is making me cry right now that I don't get to do that ... that I miss out on precious moments every single day ... that it is just whisps of time that I am with her ...
Love just isn't a deep enough word for how I feel about her ...

Then the question came that had come about 870 times already since daddy had left for work ...
"Mommy ... where's daddy?"
"Daddy's at work sweetie"
"Daddy go mo bike"
"No sweetie Daddy didn't ride his motor bike to work"
I know this time she just wanted him to see her on the bike ... but I caught the look I had gotten over and over today ... and the look and conversation every person that passed us while out today ... After the bike store we went and got smoothies and sat outside enjoying the afternoon ... talked about the cars driving by ... how delicious the smoothie was ... and of course ... "Where's Daddy?" ...
I so so so wish I got to spend every day with her ... it is making me cry right now that I don't get to do that ... that I miss out on precious moments every single day ... that it is just whisps of time that I am with her ...

Little Things ...
Yesterday on one of D's rides on his moped I asked him if he could get me a card reader ... my desktop has gotten to crawling speeds and we can't figure out why ... so I need to do my photos from my laptop ... he got me a great card reader and an even more awesome gift for my desk ...
It is these little things that I love so very much ... he so knew I would dig this ... it hooks up to a USB port on my computer ... and it just makes me smile every time I look at it ... he seriously ROCKS!!

What Is It?
this isn't going to be a very happy entry for christmas eve ... but i gotta get it out so i stop crying ...
i got a christmas card today from my ex ... he and his girlfriend erin got engaged on thanksgiving ...
i feel like i am in the scene from 'when harry met sally' ... where she finds out her ex got engaged ... and she is crying and says ... 'i always thought that he just didn't want to get married ... the truth is he didn't want to marry me' ... that is the truth of my life ...
everyone i have ever dated has said 'i don't want to ever get married' ... but they were fucking spineless shitheads ... they were leaving off the end of the sentence ... what they ment to say was ... 'i don't want to ever get married TO YOU' ...
i grew up in a home where my parents really loved each other ... next month will be my parents 35th wedding anniversary ... that is something i will never have ... it makes my heart hurt ...
what the fuck is it about me ... i am faithful to a flaw ... not jelous ... very trusting ... very giving ...
shit ever since i got their christmas card i have been tearing up ... and i am sick to my stomach ... eric fucking used me ... ripped apart my being by the end ... left me and he is the one that is moving on with the life i had wanted ... it isn't fucking fair ... every one of my ex's has now been married ... well except brian that i know of ... last time we saw each other he was in love and said he wanted to marry the woman he was seeing but i haven't spoken to him in years now ... he started traveling with her and we lost touch ...
my heart just hurts ... i don't even want to think about it anymore

Love
well i set up a great menu for the week ... since david has to work so much i am going to fix dinner each night ... no more pizza and fast food shit ... and there will be enough to pack left overs for his lunch ...
Wednesday, December 12, 2001 will be our 1 year anniversary ... i can't believe we have been together a whole year ... time has just flown by ... it really has been a great year ... we have had amazing hardships ... things most couples don't deal with for years and years and we tackled them all head on and grew stronger from the experiences ... wow i do love him so much ... i can't be thankful enough that he came into my life ... :)

Lucky Number 7 Literally
david and i were up a little too early this morning ... especially since he is working all day ... i know when he left he was tired ...
but we got up and did our grocery shopping ... thank goodness ... we just had nothing left in the house ... so now i have stuff for breakfast and lunch at work all week ...
i miss david ... he left for work at 12:30 and probably won't be home till after 2 AM ... and i think he wants to take this job ... it is just a test this weekend but he hates not working soooo much that he is really thinking of taking it which means we would be back to not having any of the same days off ... i would have saturday and sunday he would have monday and tuesday's off ...
except when we worked at the same place his saturday and sunday was only till 8 PM so we still got to see each other or do stuff ... but this is till 1:30 in the morning ... it would kinda suck ... that is for sure ...
there is one other thing i am kinda worried about ... not really but a little ... David has told me he is a cheater ... which is good that he knows that ... but he told me he seems to cheat around either month or year 7 ... cracked us both up when he said that ... so i said "if you make it through month 7 i won't have to worry again for 6 years" ... he said yup ... well we just started month 7 and he is working in a restaurant ... i have worked in many many restaurants ... and dated several cooks ... kinda who you dig talking to when you are a waitress ... and all of his cheating/messing around stories ... are with either one of the waitresses ... or hanging out after work before coming home ...
i am not overly worried ... cause things feel good ... we only seem to fight right before going on a trip ... and we have already gone through some major things very early on in this relationship and come through on the other side ... he is also a very different person than he was 'back in the day' as he puts it ... he has changed many significant things ... but i would just hate for this to happen ... i have been cheated on before ... and i just can't stand for it ... there is no reason for it ... i have never ever ever ever cheated on someone ... so i know it is possible to avoid ... i just hope he knows that ... we have a really great thing here ...
ok now that i have gotten that out i feel better ... :) ... i think i just needed to vent my worries to get past them ...

Starting Time Off
[huge smile] ... well at 7:40 PM i started my weekend ... and 35 minutes ago David turned 36 ... amazing ... there was a time when that sounded so old ... now that i am getting close ... hummm ... not too old at all ...
well life has been stressful for me lately ... lots of stuff pulling at me everywhere so i am doing the smart thing ... i am taking tomorrow off of work ... now i have worked at my job since April 2000 ... and monday will be the first holiday i haven't gone into the office ... yes we are including thanksgiving ... christmas ... new years ... everything ... much of it was work loyality ... lots of it was cause david had to work those holidays and i didn't want them to suck for him ...
well david no longer works there ... and i am taking a day off ... [smile] ...
now this does not mean i have stopped my obsessive/compulsive behavior ... i will still do work before we go to the city tomorrow ... and when we get home on saturday ... and of course sunday and monday ... but i will do it from the comfort of my own home ... without having to talk to customers ... in my jammies ... kitty sitting on my lap ... smooching with david whenever we pass each other ... and that is the way i like to work ...
i am going to sleep in ... and stay up late ... and have a good 4 ... count them 1 ... 2 ... 3 ... 4 ... out of the office ... ohhhhhh joy!!!!!!! i really am so excited ...
and ya know what else i am going to do this weekend ... i am not going to answer the phone if i don't know who it is by the caller ID ... i guess i do that most of the time ... but being OC shit i still wind up picking it up ... but not this weekend ... nothing stressful ... including Mr. Noel that stupid Student Loan guy ...
