1988 to 2008

Yes folks that is 20 years ... TWENTY YEARS since I graduated from High School ... it is hard to believe ... sure doesn't feel like it has been 20 years but at the same time it feels like a completely different life time ago ...

So I grew up in Southern California ... my High School at the beach had more similarities than differences to West Beverly on 90210 ... now I am not one of those people that hated high school ... in fact I loved it while I was in it ... not the school part so much but the social aspect ... I was all about that ...

There was a group of about 12 girls that were friends freshman through senior year ... at least some part of that group was always together ... and I had a best guy friend that I couldn't have imagined being in high school without ...

but once high school was over ... I grew up ... got a life ... became my own person ... traveled ... moved out from behind the Orange Curtain ... tried new things ... met new people ... became who I am now ...

I actually was back living in Cali when my 10 year reunion came around ... my best guy friend talked me into going with him ... it was such a joke I couldn't believe it ...

First of all I was THE ONLY girl there not in a prom dress ... I went back over that invitation when I got home ... it was not a formal event and it also didn't say, "slap on as much taffeta and lace as you can cause we want to recreate 1988 again" ... I just wore a regular dress and sandals ... I'll tell you this I was the only one comfortable there ...

So I started getting emails about our 20 year reunion ... it is such an elite group of people on the list I am pretty sure they have me confused with someone else ...

So it is a whole weekend of festivities ... one of the girls is "graciously opening up her house to everyone so we can pre-party and post-party on Friday night" ... we had 365 people in my high school class ... I am thinking she isn't really opening it up to everyone ... just this little elite group of "Heathers" ...

So Friday night is a cruise around the bay just for alumni ... so someone like me that is traveling to the event from across the US (although maybe I am one of only 2 that left Cali or something) my hubby would have to just sit in the hotel room while I pre-partied ... partied ... and post-partied the night away ... that right there is $95 ... plus "chipping in for drinks for the pre and post party are appreciated" ...

Saturday night is an evening event at the Tennis Club ... ya know buffet ... no host bar ... dancing ... wearing a name tag with my high school photo on it ... that we are allowed to bring our significant others to ... at $150 per person ...

So airfare ... hotel ... car ... food ... Friday night events ... Saturday night events ... all adds up to a heck of a lot of money ... to see people I am not even friends with ... really hardly seems worth it ...

I think I would much rather spend that weekend hanging out with my family ... doing nothing at all ...

(BTW - you digging my senior year high school photo?? I know you love my big hair ... and that pale eyeshadow ... remember it was 1988 - and as we cheered back then "88 is great")
