So we got this amazing tree from Pottery Barn Kids ... it is called a wallie ... it is kinda like wallpaper ... you submerge it in water and then stick it to the wall ... it sticks as it dries ... and it came out beautiful ... we debated getting more than one but I think the one is enough ... there is going to be a lot going on in the room ...

The beautiful crib
We have had the crib since January but we finally set it up and it is just beautiful ... we had picked out a crib but then once we were in the store David saw this one and that was it ... it was the one we were getting ... it converts into a toddler bed and then into a full size bed ... so it will be around for a while ... we ordered a dresser too but it won't be here until right before the baby ...

Testing out our pickets
So we got to thinking ... the wood pickets are huge ... and would come into the room a lot and it would take a lot to attach them to the wall ... plus we would have to paint all of them ... and they are made to be an outside fence so they are pressure treated and we weren't sure about putting formaldehyde in a baby's room ...
We talked about painting them on the wall ... which in talks we decided it would take quite some time to paint ... and the design at the top would be hard to replicate with smooth lines without a template ... talks of templates proved futile ...
Then while talking to my dad he suggested using wood slats from blinds ... no chemical treatment, already white and much much thinner than the pickets we had purchased ... I told him it was worth a try ...
while walking through the warehouse he also grabbed some vertical blind slats and sent them down to me ... those were PERFECT ... they even have a texture that makes them appear to be wood ... the samples that I cut out turned out awesome ... we figured out how many we needed and he sent them down ... then it was my job to draw the top design and cut them out ... they look absolutely amazing ... and much better than the real wood ...

Starting the baby's room
After what felt like a lot of procrastination we finally started working on the baby's room ... and we have big ideas for this room ... it is going to have a garden theme with flowers and butterflies and bees and ladybugs and clouds ... and a picket fence ... we bought real wood pickets to mount all around the room ... after we paint them white they will be ready to hang ...
So we have so far painted the "grass" and the "sky" ... the colors we picked out turned out better than we had imagined ... they are both Behr paints (the only kind we use) and the sky is called "Nevada Sky" ... and the grass color is called "Caterpillar" ...

More Mellow Yellow
Wow we could not be happier about how this room turned out ... we flipped the furniture ... David ran a cable outlet to the big wall so we are able to put our entertainment center and TV on that wall and then we moved our couch to the small wall ... the room is much more ballanced and there seems to be a lot more room ... and with all of our furniture back in place the color looks even better ...
but the best part of the whole room is David's half wall ... the wood shelf he put on there is true craftsmanship ... it came out so very beautiful ... it really does something for the whole room ... ripping out that wall was one of the best decisions we made about the house so far and that shelf is really one of David's most beautiful pieces of work ...

Even more this weekend ...
It was a busy weekend in this household ... not only did we do the fireplace room yesterday ... today we moved all the boxes out of the guestroom ... painted the trim at the front door (finally, we have had blue painters tape on the windows and walls for months now) and all the trim in the guest room ... we also hung our new Nantucket Window Coverings by Hunter Douglas (shameless plug) ... they are even blackout shades so our guests can sleep in ... :)
Now we just need to get furniture set up in the guest room ... which since we bought a new King size bed for us we have a wonderful Queen size bed for in there ...
it is amazing but things are finally coming together ... I can hardly believe it ...

The Fireplace Room
There was supposed to be some huge snow storm today that was supposed to start at 6 AM ... so our plan was to spend the day painting the fireplace room ... above the chair rail is a beautiful cream color called Pot Of Cream ... below the chair rail is a deep red called Chianti ...
Well the snow didn't happen till we were finished painting the room ... but on the upside once we got started we didn't stop till we were finished ...
to be honest I hated the Chianti when it first went on the wall ... but David was encouraging so I kept cutting the color in ... but even once he went over it with the roller I still hated it ... turns out it because a beautiful color on the second coat and now I just love the room ...
It will be a long time till that room is finished the way we want it (club chairs, built in bookcase) but for now it is looking beautiful ...
